HR OptIn Opportunity Insider

March 2008

Dear Shari,

Shari JohnsonWelcome to the inaugural edition of Opportunity Insider, the quarterly newsletter publication of the HR OptIn online community.

I'm Shari Johnson, your HR OptIn community manager. An exciting year is unfolding for HR OptIn. If you're ready to make impact - with opportunities and options in the HR field - you can find the inside track right here with HR OptIn.

"Impact" is my personal mantra! I like to start each new year thinking in terms of the "impact" I can help create - as an individual and on behalf of my community. Leading our HR OptIn community is giving me the opportunity to do both. In truth, my personal and professional story IS the HR OptIn story - the opportunity to experience different career and lifestyle options to create the life I want to live. I want to help give others the opportunity to do the same.

I invite you to be an active part of the HR OptIn community. Let's make impact together in 2008.

Please call or email if you have any questions about HR OptIn and the services we offer. I look foward to working with you in 2008!

Shari

The On Ramp to Flex or Permanent HR. With HR OptIn, the Options are Yours.

The HR On Ramp

"Merging into the fast lane!" That's what it feels like for many HR professionals who are either reentering the workforce after a leave of absence, transitioning to a role as an HR Project Manager or consultant, or starting back down the road to a full-time position in a dynamic new post. At HR OptIn, a distinguished group of client companies means that our talent is merging with some of the most stimulating projects in the HR field. What's more, the road to success is fast moving -- because all lanes are wide open. HR OptIn can now place professionals in short-term contract positions as independent consultants, in flex-time contract positions on special projects and, if desired, in permanent, full-time HR positions of unusual challenge and leadership.

2008 Is Accelerating and Exhilarating!

It's 2008! What's your career destination? How fast and how far would you like to travel? A study by Kennedy Information focusing on the HR Consulting marketplace documents how strong demand is propelling all HR consulting subsegments -- from benefits consulting, to HR technology advisory, to talent management and more.

What are the key trends driving this industry of change? A major force is globalization. Another is the need to more effectively engage employees in dynamic areas like leadership training, high technology team building and public sector employment. Finally, HR itself is being transformed by new processes and initiatives in service delivery including market changes affecting healthcare consumerism and retirement. Time to step on the accelerator!

Update your Itinerary/Roadmap with Us!

HR OptIn wants to be your vehicle for success in 2008. You'll find we have a whole lot more to offer than just standard equipment. If you are looking for options, both professionally and personally, we urge you to connect with us today and start planning the next phase of your HR career. Start by updating your profile in your personal HR OptIn Virtual Office and tell us which HR specialties and disciplines are of greatest interest. Do you prefer part-time, flex-time or full-time? Girl on The Run: Shari Johnson is keeping HR Optin On Track

When Shari Johnson was asked to step in as Interim Executive Director and Program Manager Girls on the Run of Atlanta, she put on her track shoes. In this special assignment, Shari was stepping up from serving as a Board Member for the non-profit to leading the Atlanta chapter that helped guide and inspire young girls in the 3rd through 8th grades. The unique life mentoring program, part of a network of over 140 Girls on the Run Internatonal locations across the United States and Canada, promotes life skills development by training female youth for a 5K running event. Shari's diverse efforts were successful in helping Girls on the Run to improve financial and operational fitness and quicken her own step in the process.

Combine her consulting and leadership talents with a multi-faceted Human Resources background as an HR generalist at EDS and Accenture, and you'll have no doubt appreciating why Shari was a natural fit for the fast track at HR OptIn.

Throughout her career, balancing work and family has become a "best practice" for Shari who considers herself one of the first HR workers to have telecommuted between a household (and a new infant) in Atlanta and a return engagement with EDS in Texas.

The experience of living and working remotely made HR OptIn an exciting match for her talents. "After taking time off to raise a daughter, I was ready to get back to work, but did not have a local HR network that I could network with," she confided. "HR OptIn brings that community online, making it possible for our clients to find a contractor and for skilled HR people to easily connect with one another."

"We are thrilled to have Shari Johnson join our team as our VP HR OptIn. Shari's knowledge of HR, her strong customer service skills, and her ability to assess and match talent, make her an ideal fit for this position," said Monique Dearth, President of ISHR Group.

In addition to her solid corporate and non-profit HR work experience, Shari holds a B.A. and M.A. in Speech Communication. We hope all HR professionals with an interest in learning more about HR OptIn will communicate with Shari at 678.513.7661 x2 or shari@hroptin.com.

HR FAQ

In each edition of the HR Optin Opportunity Insider, we'll answer a frequently asked question received on the site or via email.

Q: Do you have any contract assignments in Anytown, U.S.A.?

A: One of the most frequent questions that hits our email in-box fairly regularly is an inquiry about contract assignments in a particular city. "Do you have any assignments this month in Charlotte or Miami?"

There are two answers to this question, and the second one may surprise you.

First,  when a client company requests assistance in filling an assignment, a number of factors are evaluated.  The more information you can provide on your profile with respect to what types of job arrangements you are interested in, the more effective our internal review process will be.

Updating your profile in your virtual office (the Taleo system)  is essential.  We will conduct a focused search of the database based on location, type of assignment, skill set, and more and then contact our HR OptIn community to determine their interest and fit.

The surprising answer is that, increasingly, many of our assignments can be done remotely without the need to travel to a client site in any city (or without the need to be there full-time). Currently, HR OptIn has several people working remotely.

When Weather Turns, Embrace Telecommuting Option

As treacherous winter storms paralyze the mobility of so many Americans across the country to safely navigate to a physical workplace, a more practical idea is being driven home. Dream It. Achieve It in 2008.

Your community organizer and editor has the honor of being quoted in the current issue of Pink Magazine on a subject that holds deep-seated meaning for me...right down to what psychologists describe as the unconscious level. The article is headlined, "Dream it. Achieve it. When it comes to their careers, more women let dreams be their guides." The fact is that dreams have always played a very powerful role in my life.
